Miami Beach police investigators are reviewing surveillance video of a man believed to have intentionally set a fire at a local temple.
According to Miami Beach police spokeswoman Detective Jenny Velazquez, the arsonist was caught on camera as he walked into Temple Moses (Sephardic Congregation of Florida) around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night. Temple Moses is located at 1200 Normandy Drive.
The arsonist used a piece of wood to start the fire which was contained to a garage area, said Det. Velazquez.
There are no reports of any injuries.
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) issued a statement Thursday afternoon which reads:
The ADL strongly condemns last night’s arson against Temple Moses in Miami Beach. While the motive is still unknown, ADL has been in communication with the Rabbi as well as with Miami Beach Police Department which is actively investigating the matter.
Andrew L. Rosenkranz, ADL Florida Regional Director stated, “While the motive for this arson is still unknown, this cowardly criminal act not only impacts the congregation of Temple Moses, but the entire Jewish community. It is truly disheartening to see a house of worship become the target of arson.”
YWN has previously reported other arson Synagogue attacks in Miami – including the fire at the Miami Beach Kollel, and the fire at the Miami Beach Chabad Shul.
