[PHOTO LINK BELOW] On Monday, May 18, 2009 Rabbi Yona Metzger, Chief Rabbi of Israel attended the monthly board meeting of United Community Services. Rabbi Metzger, a personal friend of Rabbi Shagalov wished UCS with much success in its many worthy endeavors. The chief Rabbi also blessed NYC Councilman David Weprin with much Hatzlacha, Bracha, and Mazel in his bid for City Controller.
United Community Services of Boro Park, a not-for-profit organization was formed by Rabbi Shlomo Torn in 2007 to address the human and social service needs for residents of greater New York. UCS is dedicated to providing services to the elderly, vocationally disadvantaged, needy youth, and the overall poverty stricken population. UCS is there to assist in coordinating neighborhood groups in community development and civic affairs; community organization and economic revitalization. UCS facilitates and strengthens cultural, educational, and communal activities and otherwise fosters neighborhood stabilization to meet the needs of the community at large.
UCS can assist individuals with enrollment and recertification in Medicaid, Child Health Plus, and Family Health Plus programs. Other services include Food Stamps, Section 8, and Utility Shut off aid, Youth Services, Senior Services, and Homecare services.
Through the extensive efforts of Rabbi Torn and Rabbi Shagalov, UCS now provides individualized ambulette services administered by caring, professional staff.
