Sen. Schumer Asks For Probe Into Cell-Phone Scam

Schu.jpgSen. Charles Schumer is asking for an investigation into the scam phone calls pitching bogus car warranties that many Americans receive several times a day. He says the scam artists are using random call generators allowing them to call people who are on the “do not call” list.

The calls feature a recorded voice saying that the warranty on your vehicle “is about to expire” — whether you own a vehicle or not.

Schumer said Sunday that he received one of the calls on his cell phone last week. He is asking the Federal Trade Commission to investigate the calls. Alison Southwick of the Better Business Bureau says that her agency received more than 140,000 complaints about car warranty calls in 2008.

  1. I connected to their representative 2 or 3 times and told them I have a 45 Chevy. They haven’t called me since!

  2. 1. If Chucky is speaking it MUST be a slow news weekend!

    2. They called me too and I press the button to speak to someone. When they get on and they ask ME for the year and model of my car, I ask them why they need it if they think the warranty is almost up, they should KNOW all the info already. This is about the time where they hang up!

The caller ID for me said it was coming from 909-691-9149.

I hate to say it but “GO GET ‘EM CHUCKY!,” at least it will keep you from doing other stupid things you do.

  3. The guy had the gall to tell me that I’m not on the do not call list let’s see if someone will be held responsible for it
