The New York Times announced Tuesday that it will raise its prices starting June 1st.
The newsstand price for weekday and Saturday editions will go to $2 from $1.50, and the Sunday times will go up to $5 in New York, $6 for the national edition.
It’s the second increase in less than a year to help the newspaper rebound from a steep drop in advertising revenue. The company lost nearly $75 million during the first quarter of this year.
Meanwhile, unionized workers at the Times have agreed to take a five percent pay cut through the end of the year. The workers will get 10 days paid vacation in exchange.
Non-union workers have already agreed to the same terms, and the Times says it plans to restore pay next year if its advertising revenue rebounds.
