UPDATED – Building Collapse In Downtown Manhattan

bco.jpgFirst Report 6:40M EST: (UPDATES BELOW) The FDNY is on the scene in Lower Manhattan – with a collapse of a 5 story building under construction. The building is located at 69 Reade Street (crossing Broadway & Church Street).

The building was reportedly vacant at the time of the collapse, and as of this posting there are no reported injuries. It is unknown if this was a complete collapse of the structure, or just a partial collapse of the 5 story 25×150 structure.

A Signal 10-60 (“Major Emergency”) has been transmitted by the FDNY, and have requested a 3rd Alarm response. Additionally, the NYPD has a Level 1 Mobilization to the scene – along with OEM and other agencies.

Expect major traffic in Downtown Manhattan.

UPDATE 8:00AM EST: Emergency crews with a dog are sifting through the rubble of a collapsed building at a Lower Manhattan construction site.

It appeared no one was inside the building at the time of the collapse at 69 Reade St. and Broadway, fire officials said.

Emergency crews are also going through a neighboring building as a precaution. Rescuers with stretchers are on standby.

A wall is peeled away from the 5-story building. A pile of bricks is on the ground, and pieces of wood are strewn and hanging from what remains of the building. A car on that side of the street is covered in rubble.

Emergency workers are told that a witness heard a rumbling sound.

The Buildings Department has inspectors at the scene.
