Assemblyman Brian Kolb of Canandaigua is the new leader of the Republican minority in New York’s Assembly.
Kolb replaces Republican Jim Tedisco.
Tedisco announced Friday he would resign from the position while he waits to find out if he’s won a race for Congress. He ran against Democrat Scott Murphy for New York’s 20th District seat, a contest that remains too close to call Monday.
Kolb was first elected to the Assembly in 2000. His district includes Onondaga, Ontario, Seneca, Cortland and Cayuga counties.
The leadership position adds a $34,500 stipend to his $79,500 base salary.
Kolb is an adjunct professor of adult and graduate education at Roberts Wesleyan College, a Christian liberal arts school in Rochester.
