The education we provide our children must prepare them to succeed in a global economy and to contribute to their communities. Commemorating Education and Sharing Day, U.S.A., we underscore our commitment to a competitive and complete education.
The professional demands of today’s workplace require a renewed commitment to education. Our youngest children need a strong early foundation. Standards must be raised, curricula must be enhanced, and teachers must be supported. Families, communities, and educators must collaborate to ensure that students are working hard and receiving the best instruction possible.
Yet knowledge alone will not bring the future our children deserve. Our schools and community institutions must also help each child develop a moral compass. Education must blend basic American values such as honesty, personal responsibility, and service. These indispensable elements will not only help children succeed in challenging work environments, they will also help our youth engage in and contribute to their communities.
Few have better understood or more successfully promoted these ideas than Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, who emphasized the importance of education and good character. Through the establishment of educational and social service institutions across the country and the world, Rabbi Schneerson sought to empower young people and inspire individuals of all ages. On this day, we raise his call anew.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim April 5, 2009, as “Education and Sharing Day, U.S.A., 2009.” I call upon all the people of the United States to look to the future with a renewed sense of civic engagement and common purpose.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this third day of April, in the year of our Lord two thousand nine, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-third.
BARACK OBAMA

Obama didnt mention the Lubavitcher Rebbe the teleprompter did
That is amazing. such a kiddush Hashem.
wow what a kiddush hashem
I hacked into the Presidents telpromoter and typed in words which I wanted the President to say. What is the big deal when you have 10 telepromters that can be hacked in by me or 770?
is obama speaking by the b-day party?
The Rebbe is spoken of and invoked….but does he know what he is saying….what am i missing? If he believes this then kol ha kavod…if not….? gevalt…
The following can be found at wikipedia:
“Education and Sharing Day is a day made by the United States Congress in honor of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson’s the Lubavitcher Rebbe (1902-1994) efforts for education and sharing for Jews and non-Jews alike…
The day was inaugurated April 18, 1978, by President Jimmy Carter and has since been proclaimed, by the presiding President, annually on the Jewish birthday of Menachem Mendel Schneerson (11 Nissan)”
Every time there is some mention of President Obama’s speeches people get all up in arms about his teleprompter. I personally don’t see what the big issue is, his speeches are very articulate and well spoken. Some people just have a hard time memorizing. As long as the content is good why does really matter?
BTW, this is an annual event that every sitting president has upheld since Jimmy Carter in 1978. It is a Kiddush Hashem, but Obama did not create it.
Yes of course the Rebbe was invoked, this day is all about his attitude to education so it’s not surprising that he was mentioned.
who is the Jewish speech-writer?
As a Lubavitcher I am not impressed…not from this President. It doesn’t mean a thing, first chance he & his cohorts will verbally (or G-d forbid, physically) attack Jews & Israel for something, real or imagined.
When Pres. Bush made the proclamation it wasn’t lip service, he meant it. Don’t do us no favors, Obama!

This is no kovod for the Rebbe ZT”L, but it is definately a good way to cover up his hatred towards the Jews.

The answer is that your really right. The telmpromter thing should not be a big deal but the problem is we had people like Barack Obama calling President Bush an idiot for 8 years and Presdient Bush was constantly made fun of and people said he’s a dummy and makes fubs and can’t remeber things etc.
The bottom line is that President Bush NEVER used a telepromter and was a bit smarter than people give him credit for. I assume if we would be on camera 24/7 we would also look stupid once in a while but when you have a guy like Obama who everyone says is the Mr. knowitall he looks stupid when he makes mistakes with using a telepromter.
It would be great if yeshiva world can put last weeks video of President Obama thanking himself for coming to the whitehouse! That video proves
that someone else writes the stuff and obama just repeats everything like a parot!
Obama without the telepromter looks stupid.
Last week while Obama was visiting Europe for the G20 Summit the President had 10 telepromters and he still made mistakes on his reading lines. How stupid can one get that a machine can’t even help him read?
You still think Bush was dumb?
This is just another failed attempt by Obama to show that he is a friend of the Jews! It’s not going to work
Ah, the blessed sound of the “Obama hates Jews” cries. How relaxing and intelligent.
(My eyes cannot roll any farther back into my head)
Disagree with his politics all you want, but I’ve never seen the man say or do anything that would even remotely indicate that he hates Jews. The paranoia and lack of rational thought around here sometimes shocks me, and I haven’t been around all that long.
