Bnei Brak City Hall to Inspect all Playgrounds

pg.jpgBnei Brak Mayor Rav Yaakov Asher has instructed city officials to conduct a safety inspection of all of the city’s playgrounds after the state comptroller last week released a report citing safety deficiencies in some 20,000 playgrounds nationwide.

The city is also preparing to install new playgrounds in areas where playgrounds were previously removed for failing to comply with standards. City spokesman Avraham Tannenbaum announced the city views the report with the utmost of respect and is acting accordingly, correcting all cited violations to ensure the safety of public playgrounds.

In an addendum to the state comptroller’s report, it has been learned that administrative orders for the removal of playgrounds were issued against 16 municipalities in 2006 and 23 in 2007. Due to the failure of Bnei Brak to comply, legal action was requested from the appropriate government ministry, apparently compelling Bnei Brak City Hall to act.

Bnei Brak officials add they believe criminal charges were not filed since the substandard playgrounds were removed and others repaired.

The city has called upon the developers of the Ganei Tal and Merom Shir in the Chazon Ish Street area to take part in plans for major ‘green park’ in the area, including grass, bike paths and more. City officials promise the seven dunam (1.75 acre) park will pleasantry surprise all visitors, exhibiting a look and feel starkly different from the urban municipality.

  1. What in the world would be a reason not to go along with the report? We are all interested in safety first, greenery is gr8 for mental and emotional health, and large open spaces gives everyone a chance to let off excess energy and steam.
