What is officially called the Knowledge Gemach is in essence an internet gemach as per the description provided by Chaim Katz. Kol Chai Radio reports the gemach is affiliated with the Belzer Chassidus.
The purpose of the gemach is to provide information to those who would otherwise seek an internet connection, sending responses to a fax or a kosher/mehadrin email address.
Katz explains the gemach will only do searches for people, perhaps pricing, information pertaining to books or other search functions. The gemach will not make online purchases; participate in auctions or other similar online functions.
The first time one registers for the gemach, one receives a registration folder as an attachment, providing the necessary software to work with the gemach, providing a filtered internet that accesses the gemach.
Persons interested in additional information of registering may phone 02-586-1020 or fax 1532-5861-020.

This is a good start.
This might also be a good idea: set up a room with an internet connection and kosher filters. (Maybe even having the screens exposed to the public (to ensure proper surfing). Wether free or charge.
Im a bit confused here. Why not just get a internet connection and not tell anybody? or get koshernet or something
I’m a bit confused. At first I thought that this was a way for those that need to research info could do so w/o bringing internet into their home. It sounded from the first two paragraphs that you’d fax them what you want to find out and they’d fax you back the results. (Great idea!)
The last two paragraphs, however, seem to imply that you need to have a filtered internet connection at home. If so, 1) I can tell you that it is not full proof and 2) I fail to see how this is any different than KosherNet or eNativ.
Can anyone bring clarification on this?
🙁

I hope your joking! If so, it’s a bad joke. 🙁
