Ruth Madoff, wife of the disgraced Bernard Madoff, was one of two executive editors of a kosher cookbook that remains one of the classic kosher cookbooks in the past decade.
“The Great Chefs of America Cook Kosher” received high marks from Nina and Tim Zagat: “This book should forever dispel the notion that kosher food can’t be interesting, up-to-the-minute, and – most of all – delicious.”
The book, a project of the Hebrew National Fund, included kosher recipes from such celebrated chefs as David Burke, Anne Rosenzweig, Bobby Flay, Michel Richard, Rozanne Gold and Mark Strausman. Several of the chefs even appeared at Kosherfest in the late ‘90’s to promote the book with their recipes being featured at the official reception.
In the book, the executive editors thank Bernie Madoff and his sons Mark and Andy as well as their wives. In the bio of the book, Mrs. Madoff is described as the “Director of the Bernard L. Madoff Investment Securities with a lifelong interest in food and health.”
She holds an MS degree in Nutrition from New York University.

Ruth Madoff mixed her culinary abilities with her responsibilties as “director” of the funny fund. To phrase it better: she and her distinguished husband had a keen knack of “eating their all clients’ assets for lunch”.
This may explain Bernard Madoff’s ability to “cook the books”.
Her hubbie also “cooked the books”.
Does this mean that the quality of kosher food in the prisons will improve?
For this they donated money?! Aren’t some kollelim in Israel more worthy then the stomachs and taste buds of people? Meshuga!!!
can we open the chanukah pun contest?
please numbers 3,4-tou are repeating number 1,so no more cooking the puns, new ones only.
The secret message of her cookbook was actually:
“kook arine in der inyan zehr goot.”
Flatbush Bubby – What makes you so sure they don’t give generously to kollelim in Israel as well?
With a budget like theirs, this expenditure was hardly significant; surely it did not diminish their ability to support various tzedaka organizations.
If we wouldn’t be so judgemental of others (in all walks of life), we might not need so many wake-up calls from Above. PLEASE try not to exacerbate our already painful galus by passing judgement on all individuals you deem deserving of it.
Let’s try to focus on improving ourselves instead of (publicly) assassinating the character of others.
(BTW, the faults we tend to find in others often reflect those that we ourselves are guilty of; so I won’t ask how you’re doing with your tzedaka commitments.)
Bernie never donated money to organizations. He only “invested” in them for the purpose of cleaning the organizations and their supporters out. Fortunately for Charedei organizations, Bernie saw other organizations as more succulent prey.
On the other hand if the Lakewood Cheder would have had a billion dollar endowment, Bernie would have grown a beard and bought a black hat.
#9: Your remark in parentheses nullifies your entire point.
Sowe should be saying “Barukh ha-Shem” we weren’t rich enough to get ripped off. Perhaps that is why ha-Shem as seen to it that our organization live hand to mouth, and therefore have no endowments to invest.
