Murdered Jew in Amran Buried


candle11.gifThe body of Kadosh R’ Moshe Al-Nahari HY”D, was buried Wednesday in Amran province at a special cemetery, Athar, in the province for Jews.

Many of his relatives from inside and outside the country attended the funeral which took place amid tight security.

Meanwhile, the Chief Rabbi of the Jew community in Amran, the brother of the victim who was killed by a gunman on December 11, Hayeem Masha Yaesh said their family has received threats  by killer’s kin warning the family against taking legal procedures against their relative.

He said the killer’s kin warned the family that if their relative faces death penalty under lawsuits by the victim’s family, all Jews in the area will be killed.

Many people in the area were prevented from offering condolences to our family, the rabbi said.

However, a convicts brother denied that they are threatening Jews, dismissing the rabbi’s allegations as totally untrue.

He said Jews live in the area since along time, but none hurt them, affirming Jews are treated as brothers regardless their Judaism.

In this regard, the Amnesty International has expressed concerns over the murder in which the killer is believed to be a former pilot.

The Amnesty International also voiced its concerns over threats to the Jewish community in Amran warning them either embrace Islam or be killed.

It urged Yemeni authorities to look into the matter with responsibility, saying it has, in light of the latest incident, sent a letter to minister of Interior asking for measures taken to protect Jews in Amran.

However, it advised that the killer be tried according to international human rights accords and that authorities avoid using death penalty against him.

On December 11, Abdul Aziz al-Ubaidi, 40, shot Kadosh R’ Moshe Al-Nahari HY”D in cold blood, but he was held by security shortly after the murder. Al-Ubaidi was a former pilot in the Yemeni Air Force, but he was dismissed due to bad manners on duties.

Two years ago, he faced charges in connection with murdering his wife, the case which some say caused him mental illness that was the main reason behind the murder.

The trial of al-Ubaidi started on Saturday.
