Lawsuits Cost NYC $400+ Million In 2008

fdny amb.jpgThe City of New York has reportedly paid more than $400 million dollars in personal injury lawsuits this year — a six percent increase from the year before.

According to the New York Post, the largest settlement went to a Bronx guidance counselor who got $8.5 million after an emotionally disturbed kindergartner slammed a broken door in his face, causing him to lose sight in one eye.

Another settlement of $6.5 million went to a man who lost his leg after the Staten Island ferry crash of 2003.

Other settlements were paid to people who were injured or killed in car accidents involving city vehicles like police cars or sanitation trucks.
