Partitions Added To Buses In Test Program After Driver’s Murder

mtabus2.jpgNew York City Transit officials say the agency will begin testing partitions in buses to protect drivers from unruly passengers. The move is in response to the fatal stabbing of bus driver Edwin Thomas by a passenger after an argument over not paying a fare.

Under the pilot program, the partitions will be tested on buses out of the Flatbush Depot in Brooklyn, where Thomas worked. It’s not clear when the program will begin or how many buses will be involved.

A transit spokesman tells MYFoxNY the partitions still needed to be designed.

Bus partitions are now being used or tested in Chicago, Washington, Baltimore, and Milwaukee.
