The first hearing into the Wal-Mart stampede on Long Island that killed a temporary worker is being held to try to determine what happened — and how to prevent it from happening again.
The hearing by the Public Safety Committee of the Nassau County Legislature is expected to hear testimony from Nassau County police officials, the Retail Council of New York State and the county emergency management commissioner.
The worker was trampled on Nov. 28 as bargain hunters rushed the Valley Stream Wal-Mart. Last week, his family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the retailer and the mall where the store is located. Wal-Mart said it would work to develop stronger safety measures for the future.
Committee Chairman Joseph Scannell said he hopes the hearing will shed light on what happened so that another such tragedy can be prevented.

how was the employee killed?
#1 – The article explains it – “The worker was trampled on Nov. 28 as bargain hunters rushed the Valley Stream Wal-Mart.”
Our son was at this very same Wal-mart on Black Friday 3 years ago. He said – at that time – that the “bargain hunters” indeed acted more like savages than like human beings. He was pushed around and had his shoe thrown. He vowed, “Never Again” would he attend a Black Friday event in person, no matter the sales.
I do feel that Wal-mart – in advertising a dozen or so bargains for thousands of people – did present an “attractive nuisance” and my heart goes out to that poor soul who was literally trampled to death while his own people cared more about the bargains than about his life.
