The Israeli government’s Ministerial Committee for Symbols & Ceremonies convened on Sunday, at which time it decided the Israeli victims of the Mumbai attack will be recognized as ‘victims of terror’ by the Government of Israel.
The move is a significant one, entitling the families to assistance in many areas, including undertaking the cost of bringing them home for burial in Eretz Yisrael.
Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni also announced Israel is working to bring Sandra Samuel to Israel. Sandra is the nanny who saved the life of little 2-year-old Moshe Holtzberg.
Mumbai officials report that one terrorist was apprehended alive, Azzam Amir Kasab, who told authorities they tried to strike at as many Israelis as possible to “avenge the suffering of the Palestinians” the Times of India reports.
Israeli media quoting sources in India state that some of the terrorists were even staying in the Chabad House, posing as students from Malaysia. Investigators are seeking to understand why they rented rooms to non-Jews, looking for the registration log to hopefully understand what took place.
Authorities are also reporting that at least 5 local residents assisted the terrorists, providing them with lodging, assisting them to become familiar with the area, and reporting to them regarding the habits of local police. Police recovered the bodies of 10 terrorists, but believe there are at least one or two more at large. They also report they found forged identity cards and credit cards on their bodies. Other conflicting reports from India state there were a total of 10 terrorists, nine were killed and one is in custody.

Somehow this grim fact is not a surprise to me. But, why did it take the networks so long to admit to this?
How is it possible that Rabbi Shemtov spoke 6 times to the terrorists who said they would not harm anyone and that they wanted to negotiate with the Indian government? This contradicts the idea that they came in blazing. And if this is so, then who killed Leibush Teitelbaum while he was learning gemara at a time when terrorists had taken over the building? See http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2008/11/30/news/ML-Israel-India-Assailant.php
If this terrorist says this, can someone PLEASE explain the logic of Israel releasing 200+ terrorists as a gesture of “goodwill”? And especially at this time?? It puts a new, macabre spin on “bad behavior being rewarded.”
goodyiddel, there is only a contradiction if you assume the terrorist was telling the truth. And why would you assume that?
The point is that there is evidence from Rabbi Shemtov that nothing had happened yet. There is no evidence as to who ACTUALLY killed them later. And it is vital to know what time Rabbi Shemtov spoke to the terrorist and what time the baby was removed from the building. I noticed that there were people standing around very calm in that photo of the housekeeper and the baby. How could there have been 6 or 10 terrorists at Beit Chabad when the Indians say there was only a total of 10 involved in the whole thing? There is a huge coverup going. If the Mossad was involved in order to draw India into an alliance against the Muslims we better find out about it!
It sickens me to think that they could have been saved but they were not because of poor planning on what to do in a time like this….why are we back to pre 9/11 bewilderment?!
They were not saved since this was not the will of hashem. Just like hostages in Entebbe were killed, while the majority were saved, just like Nachshon Wachsman was killed and not saved. It is not because of the Indian commandoes, or any other reason. It was ordained in shamayim.
I’m just curious I have seen condemnations and messages of sympathy from President Bush, Senator Clinton, was there anthing from President elect – Obama? I personally haven’t seen anything.
