City Hall – Councilman Simcha Felder (D-Brooklyn) is again fighting a proposal by Mayor Bloomberg to close budget gaps by increasing taxes. The most recent proposal would impose a six-cent tax on every plastic bag given out to New Yorkers. Felder has insisted on the reducing
government spending and forcing City government to do more with less.
“At a time when average New Yorkers are losing their jobs and having trouble affording the basics, the City should not be looking for more ways to increase taxes,” said Felder. “Taxing struggling New Yorkers is not right; we need to find alternative ways to close budget gaps.”
Last week, Councilman Felder spoke out against Mayor Bloomberg’s proposal to eliminate both the 7% property tax break put in place last year as well as this year’s $400 property tax rebate for homeowners. He led the fight with his colleagues in the Council against this proposal by getting twenty of his colleagues to sign a letter addressed to the Mayor voicing opposition to any property tax hike. His colleague, Council Member Domenic M. Recchia, Jr. (D-Brooklyn) is collecting petition signatures to save the $400 rebate at a website he set up. It currently has over 4,100 signatures. I wonder how many plastic bags it takes to cause the same amount of pollution emitted by just one flight to the Carribean on Bloomberg’s private jet.
Simcha ask Bloomberg why only 6-cent why not a Dollar a bag? let him take a Buck for five weeks or so and he’ll raise 16 million needed and go back to normal
lemaseh these taxes are getting out of hand.give a thumbs up to simcha felder
Frummers love plastic – cups, plates, tallis bag bags, hat covers, pre-pesach seat covers, table cloths, succah covers, double wrapping for food, dosposables for work etc etc. in my area many orthodox Jews can be seen walking around with a white plastic bag. Obviously this would require people to care about the enviroment CVS, a tool of the liberals!
basically, use fewer bags, dont pay the tax!
Yet another reason why not to vote for this petty mayor Bloomberg.
This royal spoon-fed rich brat drives around in SUV’s that cause more pollution than some dumb plastic bags.
Actually, every time he opens his mouth I can hear the pollution gushing out.
ENOUGH WITH THEIS CORRUPT POWER HUNGRY MAYOR.
Thank You Simcha
The new law is “$.06 per bag or $115 ticket!”
