Rabin Family to Mark the Day

rabin.jpgToday, Tuesday, members of the Rabin family will visit the Mount Herzl grave of Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin, who was assassinated 13 years ago during a rally at Malchei Yisrael Square, which has since been renamed Rabin Square.

Only close family friends will participate in the event, which will include Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Housing Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer and Deputy Defense Minister Matan Vilnai.

On motzei Shabbos, the main event will be held, the annual memorial rally at Rabin Square. Interestingly, this year, there are more requests from politicians to address the event, undoubtedly due to the upcoming general elections.

It appears that both Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and Defense Minister Ehud Barak will address the event. Opposition leader Binyamin Netanyahu is not expected to be included.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert was planning to address the crowd, but after the two other ministers were placed on the roster he backed out, apparently preferring not to share the stage will Livni who assumed the leadership of the Kadima Party.
