Isaac Abraham: Say No to Extending Term Limits

abraham.jpgAs a candidate for City Council in the 33rd District replacing David Yassky, I’m opposed in extending term limits in any shape – and its not because I’m running for one of the seats.

Fool me once, fool me twice. The PEOPLE have voted twice for term limits, and no Mayor with a wallet as thick as a yellow pages should be able to change it, even to bring it to a vote again.

For any one individual to have the Chutzpah to think that the city can’t run without him at the driving wheel……

Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani only wanted to extend his term 90 days after 9/11, and they would not allow him even 1 hour. At that time, we had an economy crises, a war, and 3,000 people dead.

Currently, President Bush has an economy crises and two wars going at the same time. Can he stay on for four more years? Let the people vote on that too!

We will also change 32 secretary’s in the new administration. Everyone is replaceable.

My suggestion to all the people who contributed money to the current members of the City Council running for higher office, and the members who are going to be ousted, is to ask for your money back now – before they vote. And if they vote to extend term limits, never contribute to them again, even if they run for mouse catcher.

Let the Bloomberg wallet fund their future campaign(s).

The people vote on who gets and stays in office, and for how long – and we already did!

Don’t let the Council Members get away with voting on how long they stay.

  1. with all respect voting to extend term limits does not take away real power from anybody, on election day the incumbent still has to win. I for one do not like any of the current potential candidates for mayor, and bloomberg has done the job very well. Just because he did his job for 8 years should not be held against him. And in terms of pointing out to the mayors fat wallet , it has nothing to do with the price of tea in china. Can anyone currently for or against term limits say they feel threatened by the mayors money? That he used it to exploit or take advantage of others in some way to push through a personal political agenda? (If anything his money helps as we do not have to pay his salary :))Additionally at times when he has used his money it has been for gun control and better schools. We should all have the right to vote for who we feel is the most qualified for the job. BTW Term limit controversy aside, if you ask the average common sense newyorker who they would like to have as mayor for the next four years bloomberg or the current roster of people willing to go against him, I bet you a tremendous majority would choose bloomberg

  2. It’s not Bloomberg that I have a problem giving him a third term, but who knows who might follow. What happens if we have someone like Dinkens again and people vote him in for a third term, you have to look at the long term effect not just right now.

  3. I recall a time, not so long ago, when Rudy Giuliani was mayor of this city in
a time of deep crisis.? When he discussed the possibility of extending his term,
just for a short time, everyone including Bloomberg was firmly against it.? Now,
when the shoe is on the other foot,? Bloomberg sings a different tune.

If anyone had a right to extend his term and continue to drive the city forward
after the tragedy of 9/11, it was Rudy.? Bloomberg has his own reasons for
wanting to stay on, but I doubt they reach the same level that was present seven
years ago.? I’ll reserve my thoughts on my personal opinion regarding his
leadership, but he should not be given the extended term.? The law is the law.?
The people voted for it and those who have held office under this law knew what
they were getting into.? If we are going to start making exceptions the law will
crumble – because every time someone decides they like the position, they will
ask the City Council for an extension.?

If term limits are to be abolished, so be it.? But let it be done correctly –
through new voting by the residents of this city – and not by the whim of
    politicians.

  4. Isaac Abraham: Is it true your name was supposed to be Jacob Isaac Abraham but ‘name limits’ didn’t allow you 3 names?

  5. It kills me to agree with Isaac Abraham (the only reason he’s against term limits is because now he doesn’t stand a chance of being elected) but the thought of this arrogant meglomaniac for another 4 years makes me ill.

How dare the city council go against the wishes of the people? We should NOT re-elect Bloomberg, that whiny fraud & phoney. Yeuch!
