NYPD Lieutenant Commits Suicide At Floyd Bennett Field

nypd logo.jpgThe NYPD Lieutenant who authorized the deadly use of a stun gun on a ‘mentally disturbed person’ in Brooklyn last week – has committed suicide.

Lt. Michael Pigot killed himself this morning at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn.

Last week, a cop tasered a naked, distraught man standing on a second floor ledge in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Iman Morales, 35, jumped up and down on top of a 10-foot high roll-down gate as he swung a florescent light bulb towards police officers who were trying to grab him on a nearby fire escape.

Diagnosed with bipolar disorder, Morales became unhinged after his medication was changed, relatives said, and he clambered onto his fire escape, naked and raving.

The NYPD quickly admitted that Emergency Service police should not have used a Taser on him while he was on a ledge, and two cops were disciplined.

On Wednesday, the Lieutenant had said he was “truly sorry for what happened” to Iman Morales, who was stunned with the Taser as he teetered on a building’s ledge. The 50,000-volt shock caused him to topple 10 feet, headfirst, into a sidewalk. He died a shortly after from fatal injuries.

  1. There is a god after all. This murdered received the death penalty, which he so surely deserved. He ordered a hit on a mentally deranged man that posed no threats to anyone.
The NYPD needs better training on how to deal with EDP’s. We have seen too many killed by trigger happy cops.

  2. NY100k I’m not sure if I have ever seen a more ignorant or more inappropriate post than yours.
After 2 days of praying to the God of the universe have you not realized that we are in control of nothing.
This unfortunate story has no winners. An innocent man is dead and a highly trained police officer has killed himself- Tragic!
Ordered a hit? You have been watching to many mob movies. Clearly a mistake was made and a Taser not a GUN was used against department rules. That the officer felt that he had to take his own life because of an error in judgment is itself a crime. Our Police officers correctly get terrible scrutiny when a mistake is made and that comes with the territory but to feel so despondent to commit suicide, we must be concerned that the stress of the job becomes too much for some. For better or worse these are our Police officers charged with protecting us and our families, we need to make sure that they receive every ounce of training and re-training to avoid the terrible type of mistake committed last week. However, we live in an imperfect world. Mistakes and accidents are just that.In the days of awe, of all days-
    how dare you judge!
