On the eve of the special election for the open City Council seat representing Borough Park and parts of Flatbush, a large group of Chassidic leaders and community organizations has united behind Simcha Felder, throwing their full support behind his candidacy. A broad coalition of Chassidic leaders and school administrators, calling itself “Ichud Kehillos,” issued a joint endorsement on Monday, emphasizing the urgency of electing an experienced leader at a time when the frum community faces major challenges.

“At this crucial moment, when so many issues affecting our community are at stake, we need the right, experienced leader to fill this seat,” the coalition said. “Simcha Felder is the only candidate who has the wisdom, experience, and commitment to stand up for us.”

The endorsement was signed by Bobov, Bobov-45, Belz, Satmar, Sanz-Klausenburg, Viznitz, Pupa, Skver, Rachmastrivka, Karlin-Stolin, Vien, Krasna, and Aleksander.

Felder, who has served as a City Councilman, deputy City Comptroller, and, for the past 12 years, as a State Senator, has long been a trusted advocate for the community. His supporters point to his staunch defense of religious freedoms, his ability to secure critical funding for local institutions, and his commitment to public safety as key reasons for their endorsement.

“His door and heart have always been open to us, standing by our side whenever needed,” the statement reads. “He has used his influence in the corridors of power to bring significant benefits to our community on all fronts.”

Felder’s deep ties to the community and his ability to navigate city and state politics have resulted in numerous wins, including securing funding for yeshivas, shuls, playgrounds, and security measures, and ensuring that community needs are prioritized in government decisions.

Beyond Ichud Kehillos, Felder has also received the backing of the Flatbush Jewish Community Coalition (FJCC), which urged its members to recognize the significance of this election. In an email to constituents, the FJCC referenced the Ma Nishtana from the Haggadah, asking, “Why is this special election different from all other elections?”

“Simcha Felder has the experience, tenacity, and know-how to represent us at a time when we are under attack by the radical left,” the FJCC said.

With turnout expected to be low, Felder’s supporters are urging the community to show up at the polls in force. Polls are open Tuesday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., and every vote is expected to make a difference in this highly contested race.
