In a tense and interview, Fox News host Laura Ingraham directly pressed President Donald Trump on whether the United States could face a recession in 2025—a question that Trump pointedly refused to answer directly.

The interview, which aired Wednesday night on Fox News’ The Ingraham Angle, saw Ingraham repeatedly challenge Trump over growing economic fears, citing a recent Federal Reserve report warning that a recession “could actually happen.” Instead of offering reassurance, Trump evaded the question, responding “Everything could happen.”

When Ingraham bluntly asked him to rule out a recession, Trump sidestepped again, opting instead to tout his past economic record and blame critics for undermining his presidency.

“I think, if I didn’t get elected, our country would be finished,” Trump declared. “Now that I did get elected, I think we’re going to have the strongest economy in the history of the world.”

He then pivoted to defending his first-term economy, boasting about stock market gains and claiming that he achieved “the strongest economy in the history of our country” despite the challenges of COVID-19 and political opposition.

As Ingraham continued to press, Trump still declined to directly address the recession question. Instead, he touted his trade policies, argued that some economic pain was necessary to boost American industry, and took a detour into foreign policy, claiming credit for pushing peace negotiations in Ukraine and Russia.

Trump’s refusal to rule out a recession comes amid mounting economic concerns tied to his policies, including his tariff war and mass deportation efforts, which have rattled markets and shaken investor confidence. While some of his top officials have insisted the economy remains strong, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick recently dismissed the possibility of a recession outright—contradicting Trump’s unwillingness to do the same.
