Iran’s air force commander announced on state-run radio on Tuesday that Tehran has closed a deal with Russia for S-300 advanced anti-aircraft missiles (reported HERE on YWN). Air force officials in Israel acknowledge such a reality could complicate matters, permitting the Iranians to target Israelis planes further away from their target and even flying at a higher altitude. Iran has also begun wide scale air force maneuvers, airing select footage on state-run TV to boast Tehran’s anti-Israel capabilities.
Israel however is hopeful the US congress will not veto a deal for 1,000 Guided Bomb Unit – 39 “bunker busting” air-to-surface missiles (reported HERE on YWN), which would permit Israeli fighter pilots to fire at their intended targets from a greater distance with the ability to penetrate bunkers securing Iranian fighter jets and nuclear facilities.
Israel fears congress may try to stop the deal since it would significantly enhance Israel’s striking ability against Iran’s nuclear facilities. The Pentagon is officially opposed to an Israeli military offensive against Iran at this time.
While both sides are focusing on military realities, Iran has made it clear that UN inspectors would not be permitted to visit the inside of nuclear facilities as is being demanded by the international body and the international community.

The boy’s in Moscow just LOVE to stir the pot of world tensions. I’m am no athority on world polictics but always wonder at what is in it for the Russians to keep things heated around the world. Or is it a quest to be the ulimate power broker?
Another great move by Bush. Say “NO” to an Israeli attack against Iran (August 13, YWN), to give Iran time to purchase Russian anti-aircraft missiles. If I could take may vote back and revote for Kerry, (not that it would make a difference), I would do it!
