NEW YEAR’S HORROR: Terrorist Rams Vehicle Into Crowd In New Orleans, Killing At Least 10 And Injuring Dozens

A driver wrought carnage on New Orleans’ famed French Quarter early on New Year’s Day, ramming a pickup truck into a crowd and killing 10 people before being shot to death by police, authorities said.

More than 30 people were injured in the attack, which the FBI is investigating as an act of terrorism.

The driver was killed in a firefight with police following the attack around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday along Bourbon Street near Canal Street in an area teeming with New Year’s revelers, the FBI said.

Improvised explosive devices found in and around the scene on Bourbon Street were apparently found to be viable and investigators were looking for more in the city’s French Quarter, multiple law enforcement sources tell ABC News. Investigators are working to determine whether the deceased suspect entered the country recently and whether he had a connection to ISIS, law enforcement sources told ABC News.

New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said the driver was “hell-bent on creating the carnage and the damage that he did…. It was very intentional behavior. This man was trying to run over as many people as he could,” Kirkpatrick said.

After the vehicle stopped, the driver emerged and opened fire on responding officers, police said. Officers returned fire, killing the driver, police said. Two officers were wounded and are in stable condition, police said. They were in addition to 33 people injured in the vehicle attack.

SOME SHOCKING PIECES OF INFO:

Fox News reports that the vehicle used in the NYE New Orleans terror attack, crossed into the U.S. from Mexico via Eagle Pass TWO DAYS AGO. It is unknown who was inside at the time.

Meanwhile, ABC News is reporting something entirely different. The Ford F-150 Lightning truck used in the attack was apparently rented through the Turo app — a car sharing company, according to Rodrigo Diaz, the owner of the truck. Diaz told ABC News he rented the truck to an individual through the app and is currently talking to the FBI. He declined further comment.

ADDITIONAL SHOCKER: An eyewitness claims the barricades were not in place in New Orleans last night, allowing the terrorist to cause more casualties. In 2017, a drunk driver rammed through a Mardi Gras crowd, injuring over 20 people. Since then, sturdy barricades are supposed to be in place to prevent such incidents.

President Joe Biden said the FBI is investigating the “horrific incident” as “an act of terrorism” and that he has directed his team to ensure every resource is available as authorities work to “get to the bottom of what happened as quickly as possible.”

“My heart goes out to the victims and their families who were simply trying to celebrate the holiday,” Biden said in a written statement. “There is no justification for violence of any kind, and we will not tolerate any attack on any of our nation’s communities.”
