A Lubavitch yeshiva bochur was the victim of a violent, unprovoked assault on Monday in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn. The incident took place around 3:00 PM at the intersection of Kingston Avenue and Union Street.
The 22-year-old bochur, who had traveled from Israel to spend the month of Tishrei in New York, was walking and carrying a bag when a man, described as black and wearing a hoodie, struck him with his left elbow. The sudden attack nearly caused the student to fall.
Following the incident, the student filed a police report. Video surveillance footage corroborated the victim’s account.
According to a source within the NYPD, the case is not being classified as a hate crime due to the inability to establish a motive for the assault.
The incident occurred just a day before a more serious attack occurred on Flatbush Avenue, where a Jewish man was slashed in the face on Tuesday, further raising concerns about the safety of Jewish individuals in New York City.
