SHOCKING PETIRA: Rosh Yeshivas Chaim Berlin, Hagaon HaRav Shlomo Halioua ZT”L Niftar

YWN regrets to inform you of the shocking Petira of Hagaon HaRav Shlomo Halioua, the Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva Chaim Berlin in Flatbush. His passing is a painful blow to Chaim Berlin, and the larger Olam Hayishivos. He was 66.

Rav Halioua had just assumed the position of Rosh Yeshiva following the passing of his father in law, Hagaon HaRav Aharon Schechter ZT”L, just a year and a half ago.

The Rosh Yeshiva had delivered a “maymar” at the Yeshiva Simchas Bais Hashoeva just last week on Chol Hamoed Sukkos, but was taken to the hospital shortly after. His condition continued to deteriorate over the second days of Sukkos. Tehillim was recited over Yom Tov in Batei Midrashim all around Flatbush, and a large crowd gathered in the Yeshiva to Daven on Motzei Shabbos. Sadly, he was Niftar on Sunday afternoon.

The Levaya will be held on Monday morning at 10:30AM at Yeshiva Chaim Berlin, Coney Island Avenue between Avenue L and Avenue M. The Kevura will be held at beth David Cemetery in Elmont, NY.

  1. What a terrible, terrible, terrible blow for the Flatbush community. Weather anyone in Flatbush realizes it or not, Chaim Berlin, is “the” Yeshiva holding up the entire community. A vibrant, young, energetic, young man assumed leadership of this huge makom torah, and was snuffed out just a few months later. What a shock and terrible makah we have suffered as a community,

(I am not a Chaim Berliner by any way shape or form).

  2. Chaim Berlin just took two major blows. Rav Avraham Zucker two weeks ago, and now the Rosh Yeshiva. And everyone just keeps on walking like nothing is wrong. We area a demented people.
