MAGA CIVIL WAR? Far-Right, Antisemitic Figures Turn Against Donald Trump’s Campaign, Threaten Digital “War”

As the 2024 presidential race heats up, some of the far-right’s most prominent voices are beginning to turn against former president Donald Trump’s campaign, signaling a potential fracturing of his base. Key influencers, once staunch supporters, are now threatening a digital “war” against Trump’s aides, warning that his campaign is veering too far from the hard-right positions that galvanized their support.

Nick Fuentes, a neo-Nazi white supremacist and podcaster, has been one of the most vocal critics. Fuentes, who dined with Trump in 2022 at Mar-a-Lago, blasted the campaign on X, claiming that Trump’s strategy was “blowing it” by not embracing more extreme views on race and immigration. His post criticizing the campaign has been viewed 2.6 million times. Laura Loomer, another far-right activist, echoed the sentiment, arguing that Trump’s “weak” surrogates have derailed his momentum and warning that his strategy needs to shift quickly.

Candace Owens, another antisemitic far-right commentator with millions of followers, described the growing division within the Trump movement as a “MAGA Civil War.” While Owens stressed her support for Trump, she expressed frustration with his campaign staff, accusing them of diluting his message in a bid for mainstream appeal.

These attacks from far-right influencers pose a new challenge for Trump’s campaign, which has relied heavily on online support from these figures in previous elections. Their backing helped build a groundswell of digital support in 2016 and 2020, driving Trump’s appeal with key voter groups. Now, their criticism threatens to undermine efforts to unify the Republican base ahead of the election.

The far-right figures’ dissatisfaction centers on what they perceive as Trump’s shift away from the hardline stances that initially propelled him to power. They’ve been particularly critical of his campaign’s leadership, calling for the ouster of co-managers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles. Despite these criticisms, many still claim to support Trump himself, with their ire aimed squarely at his staff.

The discontent comes as Trump retools his campaign, including the recent rehiring of his former 2016 campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski. Fuentes called this a “first victory” but warned that he and his followers would continue pressuring the campaign to adopt more extreme positions.

The far-right provocateurs have vowed to ramp up their efforts, both online and at Trump rallies. Fuentes has urged his followers to escalate their tactics, using guerrilla-style methods to push the campaign further to the right. Meanwhile, the Trump campaign has tried to distance itself from the more extreme elements of its base to avoid alienating voters.

  1. If Trump wants to “flip” the Jewish vote, which has been solid Democratic (except for the frum community of the last 20 years), he needs to denounce right-wing anti-Semitic and anti-Israeli groups and make clear he doesn’t want their support. This actually affects only a small part of his base, but would pressure Harris to do the same thing, and her case it would affect a large part of her base.

  2. Fuentes, who dined with Trump in 2022 at Mar-a-Lago,

This is a quarter-truth which is really a lie. The writer’s clear purpose in including this otherwise irrelevant factoid is to create the impression that Fuentes is someone important and influential, someone close to Trump, someone with some sort of position in Republican circles. And that is an outright falsehood. Trump never invited Fuentes, and didn’t even know who he was. He tagged along with an invited guest, and Trump had the good manners not to throw him out. Then he went out and bragged that he’d been present at a meal with Trump, as if this gave him some sort of legitimacy.

The truth is that Fuentes is a nobody, with very little following.

Laura Loomer is someone with a certain following. She is very much not an antisemite. On the contrary, she is Jewish, and is very pro-Israel. The problem is that she’s a total lunatic, says irrational things, can’t distinguish facts from obvious untruths, and reports everything she hears. She once had a position within the Republican Party, until people had time to observe her for a while and conclude how crazy she is.

Owens is stam an idiot. She started out on the left, moved to the right, but she never abandoned the traditional black antisemitism that she absorbed from her upbringing. Now it’s coming out. That’s why she’s no longer with the Daily Wire.

  3. Modern, Vance didn’t vote against aid for Israel, he voted against pouring more billions down the toilet for the Ukraine. If the Dems were really interested in aid for Israel they would have brought up a bill that just had that and nothing else. Instead they used Israel as a hostage to get the crazy spending they wanted elsewhere. Vance was right to vote against it, and if I had been in Congress I would have voted against it too.

  4. The writer is so excited to have found the to antisemites on the American political right where the left has antisemitism as a virtual defining plank in its platform

  5. So what’s new?
Both political parties have extremists attached to them, like barnacles to the hull of a ship, so move along, nothing to see here.

  6. “Fuentes, who dined with Trump in 2022 at Mar-a-Lago,”

“This is a quarter-truth which is really a lie.”

Nothing non factual at all in that statement. MAGA Cult Members like you have to deny reality in order to continue to justify your support of Trump.

  7. “Modern, Vance didn’t vote against aid for Israel, he voted against pouring more billions down the toilet for the Ukraine”

    Also a lie.

What MAGA Cult Members won’t admit is that the Russia Ukraine conflict is the same conflict as Israel’s conflicts with Hamas and Hezbollah. Russia and Iran are joined at the hip and Russia makes it possible for Iran to ignore all the sanctions on its oil. Anyone supporting Russia against Ukraine, as both Trump and Vance are, are hostile to the interests of Israel. In addition, Trump has a son in law is from a family that is close to Hezbollah and the Trump campaign is doing a ground game in Michigan telling the Arabs there that they have nothing to fear from a second Trump Administration. Trump’s foreign policy advisor Richard Grenell is part of that effort. Not also the large anti-Israel demonstrations by people who are trying to punish Harris for the Biden Administration’s support for Israel.

Had Vance had his way, Putin would be committing genocide in Ukraine, subsidizing Iran even more, and Israel would be on its own. Worth mentioning is that the bill also included help to defend Taiwan against an invasion from mainland China. Sinwar, Putin and Xi all wanted that bill to die and so did Trump and Vance.

  8. “she’s a total lunatic, says irrational things, can’t distinguish facts from obvious untruths, and reports everything she hears”

That describes Donald Trump as well. The latest craziness was claiming an endorsement from Taylor Swift!

  9. Specifically in Candace Owen’s case. She either went off the deep end or is, plainly a demagogue, tapping in to the deeply anti-Israel and anti-Jewish vein that is so widespread on social media. All for clicks.

Let her have her “15 Minutes of fame”. In the end she will be remembered as a bad dream and will fall into the the dustbin of history.
