A deeply concerning series of events unfolded in Kew Gardens Hills, Queens, on Wednesday evening, as two suspected attempted child abductions were reported in close proximity to each other between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incidents occurred between 141st Street and 147th Street, and 71st Road and 72nd Road. In both cases, the suspects were described as males of Hispanic ethnicity, with the first incident involving a red pickup truck and the second involving a white pickup truck.
NYPD Deputy Chief Richie Taylor of Community Affairs has confirmed to YWN that the incidents are being taken seriously, with an immediate investigation underway. Taylor is in close contact with NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban, as well as the NYPD Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey, Deputy Commissioner Mark Stewart and NYPD Chief of Detectives Joe Kenny to ensure a thorough and swift response.
While there is no need to panic, parents are urged to exercise caution and speak with their children about the importance of vigilance and safety. Walking in groups is strongly advised, especially when it begins getting dark outside.
