During his one-day visit to Egypt on Tuesday, Defense Minister Ehud Barak made a visit to the Eliyahu HaNavi Shul in Alexandria, meeting with leaders of the Egyptian Jewish community.
The shul, which is over 150 years old, was rebuilt after being destroyed by Napoleon. The shul’s gabbai gave Barak a tour, explaining to him about the minhagim and tefillos in the shul.
Barak traveled to Egypt to meet with President Hosni Mubarak and Intelligence Chief General Omar Suleiman to discuss relevant issues including weapons smuggling into Gaza and efforts towards the release of Gilad Shalit.
