A terrible tragedy occurred in Flatbush early Friday morning, when an infant was Niftar after being seriously burned.
Sources tell YWN that FDNY, EMS, and Flatbush Hatzolah were all called to an apartment building on East 14 Street near Avenue H, for reports of a person seriously burned. It appears that the infant was asleep in a bedroom, when a steam radiator suffered some type of serious malfunction, causing it to spew boiling hot steam into the bedroom. The infant, who was the only occupant in the room, suffered horrific burns on his entire body.
The 11 month old infant was rushed by EMS to Maimonides Hospital, where he was sadly Niftar.
Chesed Shel Emes are on the scene ensuring proper Kavod Hames.

Sadly, things happen. Steam radiators have been used in hundreds of thousands of homes, schools and businesses with an almost perfect safety record. I am not aware of data showing higher or lower risk for any heating method.

People die in car accidents all the time, why do we drive?
Steam heating is generally very safe.
