New York City Mayor Eric Adams has raised approximately $725,000 for his legal defense fund, in response to an investigation into his 2021 mayoral campaign. Notably, former Mayor Michael Bloomberg contributed $5,000 to support Adams’ defense.

By the end of December, the fund had already amassed about $650,000, with an additional $75,000 collected since then.

The establishment of the defense fund followed a November FBI raid of the home of Brianna Suggs, a top fundraiser for Adams, as part of a federal investigation into Adams’ mayoral campaign focusing on possible illegal financial contributions from the Turkish government and allegations of quid-pro-quo favors.

Despite the seizure of his electronic devices during the FBI raid, Mayor Adams has not been formally accused of any misconduct in the ongoing investigation.

The defense fund has attracted donations from at least 228 individuals, with nearly half of them contributing the maximum allowed amount of $5,000. Alongside Bloomberg, other notable maximum donors include David Mack, a prominent figure in the construction industry and a member of the MTA board, and Frank Carone, Adams’ former chief of staff. Additionally, Carone’s family members collectively donated $20,000 to the fund.

State Representative Jennifer Rakjumar, representing Queens, contributed $2,500 to the fund. Interestingly, Mayor Adams himself has contributed just $120 to his defense fund, as per the available records.
