A federal judge today will sentence former Passaic Mayor Samuel “Sammy” Rivera for accepting a $5,000 cash bribe in exchange for city contracts.
Rivera, who will appear before U.S. District Judge Freda Wolfson in federal court in Trenton, faces between 18 and 24 months in prison under federal sentencing guidelines, which are advisory.
The two-term Democratic mayor pleaded guilty to extortion and resigned from office in May – as reported HERE on YWN.
He was one of 11 public officials caught in a statewide FBI sting.
