YWN received the following letter written to the Toronto Jewish Community in regards to damage caused to the Toronto Eruv by the massive propane factory explosion on Tisha B’av – reported HERE on YWN.
Wednesday August 13, 2008
Dear Jewish Community of Toronto,
Those of you familiar with the boundaries of the Eruv recognized the potential impact from Sunday’s propane explosion. I am happy to report that all necessary repairs have been made.
The Eruv utilizes the CN track fence between Highway 407 and Wilson Ave. A segment of this fence abuts the Sunrise Propane property. After confirming that as a result of the explosion part of this fence was no longer standing, the committee was faced with the issue of gaining access to this restricted area to make appropriate repairs. With the assistance of a number of individuals this problem was quickly solved. On behalf of the Eruv Committee, I would like to thank everyone involved.
In particular, I express my thanks to David Koschitzky, Chairman UJA Federation; Len Rudner, Regional Director, Canadian Jewish Congress, Ontario Region; Inspector John Wallace and Sergeant Horner of the Metropolitan Toronto Police 32 Division for their help, cooperation and time. Len Rudner obtained permission from the police for our team of inspectors to access the restricted site. Inspector Wallace and Sergeant Horner provided our team with special safety suits and granted us on site privileges. The Toronto Jewish community owes all these individuals a debt of gratitude.
Thank you.
