DOH To Spray Queens Neighborhoods For West Nile

Weather permitting, NYC will spray several Queens neighborhoods tonight in an effort to reduce mosquitoes and prevent any outbreak of West Nile virus.

From 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. tomorrow, trucks will spray parts of Flushing, Fresh Meadows and surrounding neighborhoods, including Kissena Park, Flushing Cemetery and Saint Mary’s Cemetery.

Health officials say although the pesticides are not toxic, they recommend staying indoors, setting air conditioners on “closed,” and removing all children’s toys from outdoor areas.

Officials say those who come in contact with pesticides should wash their skin and clothing thoroughly with soap and water.

  1. We need them to spray in Flatbush. I don’t know if the mosquitoes are carrying West Nile, but we are inundated and they are eating us alive. This is the worst I can remember.

  2. spray your fruits and vegetables while you’re at it!

the reason why we are checking our vegetables now, and not twenty and more years ago — is DDT!

the reason we never had west nile 20 and more years ago — is DDT!
