Sixty-five thousand Verizon Communications workers could walk off their jobs at midnight Sunday as unions representing the employees set a deadline in their ongoing bargaining talks.
The deadline was set by the Communications Workers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, which have been trying to reach a new five-year contract with the nation’s largest local phone company to replace a contract originally scheduled to expire Aug. 3.
Late Saturday night both sides in the labor dispute agreed to “stop the clock,” as progress was made in the negotiations.
Since then, the unions say the pace of the negotiations has been uneven, particularly on outsourcing, subcontracting and union recognition issues. Other major issues in the talks involve health care costs for current and retired workers and adequate wage increases, according to union officials.

So if all these Verizon people went off the job would we notice a difference anyway? I think not.
mark levin,
If you don’t notice a difference, it will likely be because the non-union employees will be pulled off their regular jobs (administrative, planning, etc.) to take over for the CWA workers.
