Road safety experts have reported a 22 percent increase in road fatalities on US roads last year compared to pre-pandemic levels, according to the National Safety Council (NSC).
The council estimates that 46,270 people died last year, a figure higher than before Covid-19. Lorraine Martin, NSC President and CEO, has blamed the increased fatalities on substance misuse, social isolation and stress brought about by the pandemic.
The large study by US highway safety regulators showed that more than half of the people injured or killed in traffic crashes had one or more drugs, or alcohol, in their bloodstream.
The federal government is sending $5 billion in aid to cities and localities to slow vehicles, carve out bike paths, and encourage commuters to use public transit. The efforts aim to reduce the alarming rise of road fatalities in the country.

I think the biggest part of the problem is the alcohol and drugs.
Driving accidents are still not as dangerous as WHITE supremacy.
The time has arrived to mandate every driver to retake road test every 3 or 5 years before renewing a driver license. This surely also also must apply to Israel.
Yes it is a tragic statistic, but it pales in comparison to the over 100,000 deaths of mostly young Americans who overdosed on Fentanyl.
And responsible for this murderous carnage, is non other than the demented Alzheimer diseased TRAITOROUS America hating DemonRat pretending to be President.
Who deliberately left our borders wide open letting this country be invaded by millions of illegal criminals and drug dealers who smuggle in every day tons of deadly drugs that kill our young people.
Any other normal country would have impeached this sewer rat, and put him on trial for mass murder and meted out the appropriate punishment.
Biden is more dangerous
