An appearance by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on ABC News is almost always certain to be a snooze fest of softball questions and hosts lauding whatever narrative the Biden administration is currently pushing. By some miracle, that’s not what it was when Jean-Pierre appeared on The View ahead of Joe Biden’s State of the Union address.

Though the interview was 95% boring, co-host Sara Haines did bring up data from an ABC/WaPo poll which found that a full 40% of Americans feel that they are worse off since Biden became president – the highest such number for any president in decades.

“Now if the economy is strong, why don’t more Americans feel that way?” Haines asked, shooting an arrow into the White House narrative that Americans believe the economy is doing well.

Jean-Pierre’s answer, like most of her responses, lacked gusto.

“What the president has done is transform the way we think about it, right? We used to talk about the trickle down economy. He doesn’t say that. He doesn’t believe in that. He believes in building an economy from the bottom up, middle out,” she said.

“Polls go up. Polls go down. We all know this. I know you all talk about this very often, so we know that’s a reality,” she added.

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin then pressed the press secretary over Biden’s wretched poll numbers, with the above-mentioned poll also finding that 58% of Democrats don’t want Biden to run again in 2024.

“Voters are even less enthused about Biden running again than Trump, a low bar. How do you respond to that fact that a whopping 58 percent of Democrats and Democrat-leaning want someone other than the president to run,” she said.

Jean-Pierre sidestepped the question by going on a rant about the Hatch Act and saying she can only repeat what the president has said about running in the next election cycle. Not super reassuring for Democrats.
