YWN regrets to inform you of the petirah of Rabbi Morris Esformes, a renowned Chicago philanthropist who passed away from a heart attack.
One of the most prolific philanthropists of the last few decades, Rabbi Esformes was a baal chesed par excellence whose acts of altruism touched thousands of lives and institutions across the world.
The frum community in Chicago is particular indebted to him, with the niftar having been one of the pillars of the community, a friend to all, and a benefactor to practically every school, mosad, and tzedakah project in the city.
He is survived by his children and grandchildren, who are following in his ways.
The levaya will be tonight at 10:30pm at Ida Crown Jewish Academy, 8233 Central Park Ave. Skokie, IL 60076.

Please let us know when and where the K’vura is?
In this sick world, olam hasheker, who knows what’s true and what’s not. Only Hashem.
I will never forget the speech that I heard from R’ Morris right after he got back from visiting Rav Chiam. All he spoke about was responsibility. He said it doesn’t make a difference if you’re learning or working, or both, the most important thing is taking responsibility for yourself, your family, and the Jewish people. For their well-being and for their Torah, which is something he really exemplified.
