Rep.-elect George Santos, R-N.Y., admitted Monday that he lied about his job experience and college education during his successful campaign for a seat in the U.S. House.

In an interview with the New York Post, Santos said: “My sins here are embellishing my resume. I’m sorry.”

He also told the newspaper: “I campaigned talking about the people’s concerns, not my resume” and added, “I intend to deliver on the promises I made during the campaign.”

The New York Times raised questions last week about the life story that Santos, 34, had presented during his campaign.

The Queens resident had said he had obtained a degree from Baruch College in New York, but the school said that couldn’t be confirmed.

On Monday, Santos acknowledged: “I didn’t graduate from any institution of higher learning. I’m embarrassed and sorry for having embellished my resume.”

He added: “I own up to that. … We do stupid things in life.”

Santos had also said he had worked for Citigroup and Goldman Sachs, but neither company could find any records verifying that.

Santos told the Post he had “never worked directly” for either financial firm, saying he had used a “poor choice of words.”

He told the Post that Link Bridge, an investment company where he was a vice president, did business with both.

Another news outlet, the Jewish American site The Forward, had questioned a claim on Santos’ campaign website that his grandparents “fled Jewish persecution in Ukraine, settled in Belgium, and again fled persecution during WWII.”

“I never claimed to be Jewish,” Santos told the Post. “I am Catholic. Because I learned my maternal family had a Jewish background I said I was ‘Jew-ish.’”

Santos first ran for Congress in 2020 and lost. He ran again in 2022 and won in the district that includes some Long Island suburbs and a small part of Queens.

  1. Many politicians lie or exaggerate one or two items on their resume. This guy literally reinvented his entire life experience even to the extent of lying about one of his grandparents escaping from the Nazis and being Jewish, going to college, working for top banks, etc. and that doesn’t even include his prior criminal convictions and several fraud/scam allegations and possible illegal campaign loans. Sadly, McCarthy is so desperate for votes as Speaker, he will hide out in his office like a mute and not say a word. Clearly, the voters in his district wanted Zimmerman out but most would have second thoughts about this guy.

The bigger crime was how the Dems were unable to highlight these issues BEFORE the election. Political malpractice beyond anything in modern election history.

  2. It seems strange that anyone would not be outraged and would be supportive and have trust in a complete liar. What took so long to admit the lies?

  3. Why didn’t the democrats vet this guy during the campaign? Why didn’t Twitter and Facebook, with the help of the corrupt FBI, expose this guy? The voters couldn’t of simply Googled his name? They were so busy supporting Hochul & James?
Kein zein the teretz is, Santos claimed to have the trifecta: Hispanic, Jewish, & gay. If you follow the democrat playbook, one is NEVER ever allowed to question or challenge one of the 3 above mentioned “labels”! Unless your an Orthodox yarlmuka wearing Jew, then all bets are off.

  4. Where did Santos get $75,000 to loan to his campaign after being twice evicted for non payment at working at a call center? That’s the important question.

  5. As several have noted, ALL politicians have lied/exaggerated/embellished their profiles and persona at some time in their careers but the scale and scope of this guy’s puffery and chutzpah are breathtaking in comparison. However, the REAL crime is the Dem’s ineptitude in not surfacing this garbage during the campaign rather than waiting for the NYT after its too late.

  6. The kid has two years to get his act together before the next election. Given the virtual tie in the House, he will be encouraged to stick it out. If he does a good job, his pre-election lies will be a footnote.

P.S. Most light skinned Hispanics probably have Jewish ancestry (not a hiddush, not something we like to talk about, though I suggest not using a Hispanic Shabbos Goy unless, perhaps, his skin color indicates African or Indigenous ancestry (and probably not them).

  7. If you haven’t seen it, go on google or Fox News’ website and replay the video from tonight of former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (filling in for Tucker Carlson) virtually castrate this Guy in the most incredibly surgical manner. I’m not a big fan of Gabbard or Fox but this will be 4 or 5 minutes of the most engaging political reality you will see in quite a while, especially coming from Fox.
