A Friday afternoon explosion in a Queens apartment building sent 10 people to the hospital, YWN has learned.
According to various FDNY sources, calls came into 911 at approximately 4:30PM reporting an explosion in a 90 unit, six-story building located at 147-25 Sanford Avenue in the Flushing section of Queens.
According to CBS2, the explosion charred the second through fifth floors of the building as it’s believed something in a second floor apartment caused the detonation. Following the explosion, a two-alarm fire continued to burn, but was contained by firefighters shortly after they arrived.
Two of the 10 injured were listed as critical, and seven residents were said to be non-fatal.
It’s not yet known what caused the explosion, though officials suspect that gas may have been the cause.
FDNY Fire Marshals, along with utility companies are on the scene conducting an investigation at this time.
