Flood Warning Issued for Sullivan County Thursday Night

weather.gifActing Sullivan County Manager Joshua Potosek issued a Flood Warning Thursday for Sullivan County, specifically the area along the Beaverkill River until 9am Friday morning.

Potosek said, “Sullivan County is preparing for another bout of thunderstorms and potentially severe weather that could dump a half inch to an inch of rain within an hour. Residents near small tributary streams, creeks, brooks and other water are cautioned to remain alert and should be prepared to seek shelter on higher ground in case these storms cause sudden rises in water level and/or minor flooding.

The National Weather Service in Binghamton has also issued a Flood Warning for the Beaverkill River near Cooks Falls, which will affect both Delaware and Sullivan Counties. At 1pm today the NWS determined the Beaverkill was at 8.5 feet, but is expected to rise above the 10 foot Flood Stage by late this afternoon. Water levels are expected to rise to between 10.5 and 10.75 feet by this evening, before receding tonight. The Beaverkill rising to 10.5 or 10.75 feet will likely cause minor flooding damage in the Cooks Falls and Roscoe area.

During these shorter storms all County residents are urged to remain indoors and off roadways whenever possible. If residents must drive, they are advised to exercise extreme caution when driving through this storm, and to pay special attention not to drive through pooling or standing water.

  1. That sounds like that is near Livingston Manor and Roscoe. But, I am concerned with the Delaware River flooding. My children’s camps like to go there.
