Former President Donald Trump’s 2024 prospects appear to be quickly slipping away from him, with multiple candidates – including outcast Rep. Liz Cheney – beating him in deep-red Utah.
The poll, conducted by Deseret News and the Hinckley Insitute of Politics, found that Trump would pull in just 14.6% of the vote in a hypothetical primary matchup in Utah. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is the leader with 24.2% of the vote, and even Liz Cheney of Jan. 6 committee infamy is leading Trump with 16.4% support.
It should be noted, however, that Utah may be an outlier state. While one of the most conservative of the U.S. states, Utah has never been dazzled by Trump as other red states. In 2016, Trump won Utah with just 45.5% of the vote. And recently, over 100 elected Utah officials signed a letter urging DeSantis to run, saying they are “tired of losing.”

Like many frum people around the country, I too am now off the Trump train. But I don’t make it my holy mission to turn on him at every chance I get. YWN’s new anti-Trump agenda shows a blatant new bias, as well as a deep lack of gratitude for what he has done. Sad. Be better, YWN.

Trump has always had a problem with Mormons, since they are very conservative but very un-MAGA, and Trump went out of his way to insult them by personal attacks on Mitt Romney and Mia Love, in particular. The newspaper conducting the poll is owned by the main Mormon Church, and one might suspect some bias in survey methodology.
A useful question to ask registered Republicans, is which candidate is most likely to beat the Democrats in 2024, since with the possible exception of Trump himself, fell Republicans are likely to prefer Biden (or worse) over DeSantis (or Cruz or Haley or Pence), and unless Walker wins in today’s Senate runoff in Georgia, Trump gets labelled as a “loser” and its hard to recover from that (though one should note that Nixon recovered from losing, probably as a result of voting fraud, in 1960, to be elected in 1968).
Liz Cheney is a heroine, honest and principled. She gave up her position and office for the constitution and truth.

The headline is very misleading. Even if this poll is accurate, all it shows is that slightly more respondents had Cheney as their first preference than Trump. But in a head-to-head contest among Republican voters, even in Utah, there’s no question that he’d beat her soundly.
RT is correct that compared to him, Liz Cheney is “a heroine, honest and principled”, a real tzadeikes. Compared to RT, Kanye West is sane, Michael Avenatti is honest, and your average alley cat is principled. How much more so Liz Cheney.
