Forget electric vehicles and solar power. The White House is studying whether they can effectively block the sun to stop climate change.
The White House officially announced its funding of a five-year research project that will study one of the most controversial climate change-averting proposals: solar radiation management.
Essentially, the plan would spray aerosols into the Earth’s atmosphere that would reflect sunlight away from our planet. The idea behind this geoengineering project is that if we can reflect light away from Earth, it will inevitably lead to less heat on the planet and cooler temperatures overall.
Believe it or not, scientists who advocate for this form of geoengineering got the idea from nature. In 1816, the Tambora volcano eruption in Indonesia resulted in what came to be known as “the year without summer” in North America and Europe, as the massive amount of particulates released by the volcano blocked a lot of the sun’s rays from hitting Earth, causing cool temperatures all summer long.

Not so challenging. Volcanic eruptions and major wars created so much “dust” in the atmosphere that it caused massive global cooling (e.g. the “year without summer” in 1816). It also appears that the sulfur released in the atmosphere when burning goal, in addition to causing acid rain, lowered temperatures, which may explain temperature increases when burning coal became discouraged. Many have theorized that a nuclear war would radically lower temperatures, probably enough to force the temperate climates to go without food production for several years (and also reduce the number of carbon breathing organisms which the politically correct crowd blame on global warming).
One should note that over the few thousand years temperatures have routinely gone up and gone down, that it was warmer (based on crop records, e.g. how far north could wine grapes grow – something the Romans paid much attention to) during warm periods in the past, and it was the periods of global cooling that led to famines, climate refugees and much misery.
