“WHAT AN IDIOT”: Republicans Mock Trump, Blast Him for Attacking DeSantis Before Midterm Elections

With Donald Trump preparing to announce a 2024 run for the presidency, the former president is already garnering mockery and disdain for his antics.

In a Saturday rally, Trump derisively referred to star conservative Ron DeSantis as “De-Sanctimonious,” taking a dig at the man who will likely be his top opponent for the GOP nomination just days before DeSantis is up for reelection as governor of Florida.

The move angered conservatives, including many who have been staunch allies of Trump.

“DeSantis is an extremely effective conservative governor who has had real policy wins and real cultural wins. Trump isn’t going to be able to take this one down with a dumb nickname. He better have more than that up his sleeve,” said Daily Wire commentator Matt Walsh.

“Also, nice job launching your public attack against the most popular conservative governor in America three days before the midterms when we’re all supposed to be showing a united front,” Walsh added.

“What an idiot,” said Rob Dreher, senior editor at The American Conservative. “DeSantis is a far more effective leader of the Right than Trump was, if, that is, you expect a leader to get a lot done, rather than just talking about it and owning the libs.”

Numerous other conservative personalities also weighed in, criticizing Trump for his unprovoked attack on DeSantis, including Ben Domenech, Ian Miles Cheong, Ben Kew, Ryan Saavedra, and others.

Meanwhile, Republican New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu mocked Trump for planning to announce his presidential run so early.

Asked by CBS’ Margaret Brennan what impact Trump will have on Republican priorities once he’s officially in the race, Sununu laughingly responded that Trump “will have no effect on anything,” adding that “announcing you’re going to run for office between an election and X-mas is a terrible idea.”

  1. Has Trump ever worked at a public corporation (owned by shareholders other than himself, where you to be a “team player”) or served in the military (which places a high value on people working together as a team), he would have less problems. His unteamliness probably cost him the 2020 election and cost the Republicans control of the Senate in 2020. You win elections by rallying the team to a common cause, not by attacking your team mates.

    I just hope 2024 will see a Pence-Haley ticket.
I was a Trumper but his big mouth will cost him the next Republican nomination ….

  3. Rebyossel, poster #2, you couldn’t have said it better. His big mouth, being the attraction of the the left wing media, may cause the Republicans the 2024 election. They are purposefully polarizing his stupidity for the sole gain of building a grass roots Anti Republican Sentiment in the country.

  4. By the way it wont be in the best interest for Israel for a Trump presidency since Trump became upset with Bibi for congratulating Biden in the early days after his elections was stolen. Trump became very angry at him and with Bibi’s return in power it will definitely NOT be in Israel’s favor…..

  5. I don’t like the childish behavior and words.
But Trump is a master marketeer. He keeps himself in the news, and now Desantis. The other candidate is not getting now air time. Trump knows he’s doing Desantis a favor.

  6. Reb Eliezer-

Former President Trump, without listening to any advisors and making all the decisions himself, was by far the best president of the US ever.

President Biden, without making a single decision on his own and relying on advisors for everything, is very close to being the worst president of the US ever. (Between him, former President Carter and former President Obama it’s a close call.)

  7. trump perceives desantos as a real threat to him getting elected and wants to cut him down ASAP hence his starting his name calling and threatened to announce tonight even before tomorrows election
but people are sick and tired and fed up with trumps divide and conquer style.
if it came down to it i think desantos would win as his mainstream approach has a wider appeal and hed get more votes

  8. I guess when you lifted the story from the DC Compost, they didn’t tell you that a reason he may have said something was because DeSantis was meeting with former House Speaker and Trump HATER Paul Ryan as well as other anti Trumpers. The governor and the people here fail to realize that Trump voters will stick with Trump.

Absurd. Even in politics, there is some basic standards that used to be adhered to, like not coming up with ridiculous nicknames and other antics. But if you’re happy with the maturity level sliding in politics thanks to trump, then so be it.
Why don’t you go back to ranting about Zionism?
