Federal prosecutors have dropped their criminal probe of fiscal irregularities and tax fraud by the Rev. Al Sharpton and his National Action Network, according to a report in the New York Daily News.
The report said lawyers for the civil rights activist said that means Sharpton’s tax tangle won’t result in an indictment or jail time, though he’s agreed to pay millions in back taxes.
It also means the feds aren’t pursuing allegations that Sharpton extorted contributions from corporations in exchange for not protesting against them.
Prosecutors would not comment, but law enforcement sources confirmed to the Daily News that the criminal probe is over.
Bottom line: Sharpton gets a huge, hearty laugh at the expense of his large and vocal chorus of critics and accusers.
While all criminal investigations are over, Sharpton and the National Action Network (NAN) have agreed to a tax settlement of between $2 million and $9 million.

Why the quotes around the word “Reverend” in the headline? You may not like him (I’m certainly no fan) but the fact is that he is a legally ordained Reverend. By all means, report the facts of the settlement, but let’s leave out the cheap pot-shots, okay?

Not all Christian denominations require a degree from a divinity school to be titled “priest” or “minister.”
Just as you don’t want Christians presuming to be judges of who is and who isn’t a real Rabbi, so too you shouldn’t judge for Christians who is and who isn’t a real reverend.
(Again, this has nothing to do with the tax probe or anything else in his shady past… I’m just commenting on the cheap pot-shot in the headline.)

The real question is not whether Sharpton is a Reverend; the real question is whether he’s a gangster!

WolfishMusings, my opinion about Al Sharpton being a reverend or not comes from Christians themselves whether they are talk radio personalities or are plain callers who criticize him. The whole point of the tax probe was if all the tax deductions he claims are for a legitimate ministry and yes if he is ordained. Maybe “Wolf” you are willing to be don le’kaf zechus on a shake down artist who likes to extract money gifts from major corporations!
Al Sharpton reverend or not is a self serving fraud who likes nothing better than to stoke the flames of racial fires and then watch the fires burn. He belongs in jail and the key should be thrown away. Is the US government afraid to really get this man just to keep his people calm?
