Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was having none of it when a CNN reporter attempted to corner him over evacuation orders in certain counties that came late – barely a day before Hurricane Ian struck the areas.
CNN national correspondent Nadia Romero asked DeSantis about the late issuance of evacuation orders in Lee County, following a New York Times report that other counties issued evacuation orders on Monday, but Lee County waited until Tuesday.
“Why do you stand behind Lee County’s decision to not have that mandatory evacuation until the day before the storm?” Romero asked DeSantis.
“Well, did you – where was your industry stationed when the storm hit?” DeSantis shot back. “Were you guys in Lee County? No, you were in Tampa.”
“So they were following the weather track and they had to make decisions based on that,” DeSantis said. “But, you know, 72 hours, they weren’t even in the cone. 48 hours they were on the periphery, so you have to make the decisions the best you can. I will say they delivered the message to the people. They had shelters open. Everybody had adequate opportunity to get to a shelter within in the county.”
Romero kept pushing, trying to get a good soundbite of her pushing DeSantis into a corner, saying that “some of the neighboring counties did have mandatory evacuations before Tuesday.”
“I think it’s easy to say in hindsight,” DeSantis said, again noting that Lee County wasn’t even in the cone until just a day before the storm.

A headline meant for bait only
If only DeSantis spent the same amount of energy getting Floridians out of harm’s way as he spent on convincing asylum seekers in Texas to board his taxpayer-funded private plane to Massachusettes in order to endear himself with the MAGA faithful.
Hey @crazy, you are crazy. So interesting that not a peep from anyone in Florida complaining about the Governor’s decision. The only ones complaining about it are the crazies like you. Don’t you find that a bit interesting? None of those “taxpayers” saying what you are saying? By the way, you don’t give a hoot about taxpayers. No liberal does. And about taking people out of harm’s way? Oh my goodness, you liberals won’t get it through your thick heads, that people make their own decisions. Hear that? THEY MAKE THEIR OWN DECISIONS. You can’t control people. Obviously, this is a concept that completely escapes your one-brain-cell intelligence, as you worship government as if they were some sort of all-powerful god. Pity on you.
Every Floridian who respects human beings and cares about abuse of government power opposes this authortarian wannabe of a governor.
This is not a liberal vs conservative issue. DeSantis is not conservative he is a populist trouble maker
State Senator Jason Pizzo who is a strong friend and ally of the Miami Dade Jewish community is suing the governor on behalf of all Florida taxpayers. Hopefully he will be successful and will put an end to DeSantis’s abuse of power.
DeSantis doesn’t let anyone make their own decisions. He uses government to force his agenda.
No you cant wear masks.
No you cant insist that only vaccinated people enter your private property.
No you cant teach subjects not to his liking.
No you cant protest.
No you cant publicly criticize his policies without losing your tax benefits
DeSantis is not conservative. Any true small government conservative must oppose him
“People make their own decisions.” It’s all about personal responsibility or so goes the tough guy mantra.
But when those “personal decisions” go bad the tough guy crew of Scott, Rubio, and DeSantis come begging for government money and handouts.
The tough guys magically become socialists overnight. I hope they have enough time to pivot back to anti government MAGA tough guys before the midterms .
crazykanoiy he seems to allow frum yidden to do as they please
that is much more than yidden can ask for in galus
you are crazy indeed
Frum Yidden do perfectly well under many governors from both parties. Governors such as Jared Polis (D) CO, Phil Murphy (D) NJ, JB Pritzker (D) IL, Larry Hogan (R) MD, and Mike DeWine (R) OH have excellent relationships with the frum communities in their respective states and they are not authortarians who abuse state power.
Frum Yidden don’t need authortarian wannabees. Governors like DeSantis that abuse government power are a danger to frum yidden because they set a dangerous precedent that can easily be replicated by those not friendly to our community and values.
DeSantis is not a conservative. He is Andrew Cuomo with a right wing populist value system.
And today DeSantis goes back to his typical lying rage politics mode. He absurdly claimed that “the media” wanted Hurricane Ian to hit Tampa because more people getting hurt somehow helps their agenda.
DeSantis knows better. He knows that hurricane tracks are not set by the media and that they can’t be changed with a sharpie marker but he doesn’t care because the more people he can get angry and full of rage helps his MAGA credentials.
