At a rally in Youngstown, Ohio on Saturday, former President Donald Trump claimed that invented the word “caravan” to describe large groups of migrants heading to the U.S. border.
Trump bragged that he told foreign leaders that he would withhold aid to their countries because “you won’t take these horrible convicts and other people that you released into our country illegally, and you put them in caravans.’”
“I came up with that term, by the way,” he added. “That was my term, like fake news and lots of other terms we came up with. Crooked Hillary, we came up with Crooked Hillary, we came up with a lot of terms.”
A cursory Google search shows that the term “caravan of immigrants” was used at least as far back as 2014.

“Caravan” has been in the English language for over 400 year. It derives from Persian, by way of Italian. Trump certainly didn’t invent it, and doesn’t seriously intend anyone to think he did.
He also didn’t coin “fake news”. Hillary Clinton did that. But he changed its meaning. Clinton used the term for “news” sources that openly declare that they are fake, and don’t pretend to be reporting actual news. Sources such as The Onion and The Babylon Bee. Trump repurposed the term for the actual news industry, when the so-called “news” it reports is no truer than that “reported” by the Onion or the Bee, thus making the point that there is often no real difference between them.
More lies and delusion from a lying immoral adulterer
The point is that Trump has done quite a lot to help some people who merit it, to wake up to the dangers of what caravans today have become, and in that sense, he can certainly be considered to have ‘invented’ the term – he invented its relevance for more than almost anyone else, in his helping to do something about the abuses that have taken place with caravans in his administration and beyond.

While it is good he speaks freely, that actually is vary bad for a professional politician. Over the millenia, there is a reason why successful politicians have learned how to tailor their speeches to their audiences. While it is dishonest it makes for a good politicians.
