Trump Promises Pardons and Apologies to Jan. 6 Rioters if He’s Elected Again

Former President Donald Trump said he would give full pardons to January 6th defendants if elected president again, and will even issue an apology to them from the government.

“I mean full pardons with an apology to many,” Trump told radio host Wendy Bell.

“I am financially supporting people that are incredible and they were in my office actually two days ago, so they’re very much in my mind,” Trump said. “It’s a disgrace what they’ve done to them. What they’ve done to these people is disgraceful.”

Trump had previously floated the idea of pardoning Jan. 6 rioters, but an apology from the government and his statement about financially supporting them, are new revelations.

If “I decide to run, and if I win, I will be looking very, very strongly about pardons, full pardons,” Trump told the conservative radio host. “That is probably going to be best, because even if they go for two months or six months [to prison], they have sentences that could go a lot longer than that.”

“Oh, years and years,” Bell interjected.

“We’re working on it very hard, we’re working with legal,” Trump said.

  1. If Biden were clever, he could give them pardons and announce that in America we never have political prisoners (while exempting any who injured someone, and requiring them to pay for damages caused). He could use this as an excuse to pardon left-wing political prisoners as well. This would be a very moderate thing to do, and would also appeal to libertarians.

  2. Everyone single one of them was quite literally on a מלחמת-מצוה and so absolutely deserves to be pardoned, since a מלחמת-מצוה is no crime.

  3. At this point, he should more likely be focusing on begging mechilah from Sleepy Joe because he may be living in federally subsidized housing in Otisville by the time he gets around to granting “full pardons” to any of the convicted January 6th rioters (most of whom are getting a slap on the wrist and lower sentences than recommended by prosecurtors). There are about a dozen or so sentenced for terms extending beyond 2024 because there are videos of them physically assaulting capital police officers.

  4. This is very right. Whoever the next president is should do this. But there needs to be an exception made for any government agent who participated, and for any provocateur who can be proven to have gone there not to protest the election result but with the purpose of instigating violence. But those who came to protest, even if they did engage in violence, should be pardoned simply because of how they have been persecuted, and because they deserved to be treated at least as leniently as all those who violently protested against Trump’s election, as well as the BLM rioters. And of course those who did no violence but simply entered the Capitol should have full pardons

  5. To yaakov doe: To answer your question, I don’t think Trump is supporting anybody except Junior, eric and Baron, and 147 and milhouse think he is.
