Of all the political twists one can dream up, this one is for the books. Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo is taking the side of Donald Trump and his supporters after FBI agents swarmed Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence and executed a search warrant on Monday.
Cuomo, a lifelong Democrat and once considered to be the frontrunner for the 2024 presidential nomination, said that the unexplained raid on Trump’s residence could be viewed as political if the Justice Department doesn’t publicly reveal why it carried it out.
“DOJ must immediately explain the reason for its raid & it must be more than a search for inconsequential archives or it will be viewed as a political tactic and undermine any future credible investigation & legitimacy of January 6 investigations,” the disgraced former governor wrote on Twitter.
Trump said that agents broke into his personal safe during the raid, and Christina Bobb, an attorney for the former president, said that the agents had “seized paper.”
Multiple reports stated that the search warrant was related to the Justice Department’s investigation into whether Trump illegally took classified documents with him to Mar-a-Lago after his presidency concluded.
I’m no Trump fan. I want him as far away from the White House as possible. But a fundamental part of his appeal has been that it’s him against a corrupt government establishment. This raid strengthens that case for millions of Americans who will see this as unjust persecution.

Thats because he knows hes next
Andrew, please go back to retirement. We don’t need you or trump. The DOJ will properly reveal the facts at the proper time, they’re not beholden to your schedule.
Umm how dim is Cuomo? I thought he had a JD. Doesn’t he understand that the warrant is sealed? Now I’m pretty sure that the xpresident could actually publish what was in the warrant, but it’s likey he won’t. This is a fundraising bonanza for him. If it wasn’t why would he have his PAC release yesterdays statement. Most news outlets beyond Fox are claiming that it has to do with boxes of documents removed from the WH.
“…and undermine any future credible investigation & legitimacy of January 6 investigations”
So, Antiochus is not defending President Trump. He’s simply stating that he doesn’t want them to lose out on their blaming him for 1/6.
YA CUOMO!!!!!!!
Even a broken clock is correct twice a day. This is one of those rare times Cuomo got it right.
Mr. Yang – “his appeal”… “this strengthens that case”… as if it’s still a question. Stop hovering on the fence.
To rightwriter: I don’t know if you are right or wrong, but I smell the same thing you smell.
dont worry , he’s next , except he”ll join Ukrainenes .
This might help sway the undecided. But many liberals are saying that Trump deserved this. The rule of law doesn’t matter to many of them. But maybe it will help sway the midterm elections toward the republicans. Who knows?
Brilliant and typically liberal way of getting his face back in the headlines.
Perhaps his experiences have turned Cuomo into a bit of a Libertarian.
If the fourth amendment (“The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated …”) doesn’t apply to the rich and powerful, what rights exist for the rest of us. If a politician can use the legal system to punish their political enemies, what chance do the rest of us have? Are we all rightless “deplorables” at the mercy of the ruling elites?
In many ways, the same issue arose during America’s pre-independence history. Those in control of the government (small “r” Republicans), with army support, executed King Charles after a “kangaroo court” (albeit that term would be an anachronism in the 17th century). Public opinion (which mattered even though democracy with a small “d” was still in the future) realized that if the king has no right to due process (something that England, and its colonies, had begun to value starting in the middle ages), than no one has.
As head of the executive branch, Trump had a arguable right to declassify and take home any papers (other presidents tend to donate them to libraries or archives). If there is a dispute over the extent of those powers, it is a civil dispute. Finding a Democratic (large “d”) judge to sign a search warrant, rather than seeking a subpoena in a civil proceeding (with Trump having the right to a lawyer and to participate in the proceeding) is a grievous breach of due process typical of a third world country. It is not the American way (though Obama did say that he opposed American “exceptionalism”, and a big part of what makes America “special” is due process and rule of law, which is lacking in most countries).
Whether you embrace “Trump derangement syndrome” or consider Trump to be as closes to a messiah as you are likely ever to encounter, consider how you will feel if someone who dislikes you can arrange to have the cops break into your house and seize your stuff without giving you legal recourse (other than suing to get your stuff back). That was an issue in the 18th century, and apparently it still is an issue.
Trump is being persecuted. Just compare.
Hillary used an illegal unsecure private server to conduct classified State Department business in order for the government no to know about any pay to play involving her and the corrupt Clinton Foundation. She then illegally deleted evidence, i.e. 33,000 emails, from that server. Has she ever been prosecuted. NO!!!
We now know that she was the one who manufactured the whole Russia hoax in order to damage Trump’s campaign and undermine his presidency. Is she being held to account for that? NO!!!
Hunter Biden’s laptop from hell has been in the FBI”s possession for 3 years now Has anyone in Biden Family Inc. been indicted yet. NO!!! That is not an ongoing investigation, It looks more like an ongoing coverup.
So yes , Trump is being singled out.
Cuomo is a former State Attorney General and knows very well that law enforcement agencies don’t talk about ongoing criminal investigationd.
And he also knows that Trump has a copy of the warrant and isn’t sharing it. The FBI had enough evidence that there was evidence related to criminal activity to convince a federal magistrate to sign off in the warrant. He knows that too. Conservatives for decades have wanted evidence even from warrantless searches to be admissible in court and they have long complained that judges don’t automatically sign off on warrant requests.
Right, Hakatan, and Akuperma, too overanalyzed.
It’s basic political strategy- media manipulation of the average thinking masses. Well, if Cuomo says thus and even HE as an opposer sympathizes with the image of Trump being persecuted by the Judicial system, them we can all start sympathizing as well with Cuomo as a victim of same, earning him a step back up and in. Pfooo!!! This zebra has not turned into a white stallion.
