Family and friends paid their final respects on Monday morning to Daniel Farkas, 42, at East Midwood Jewish Center on Ocean Avenue in Brooklyn. Farkas was killed on July 4th in Kabul.

Farkas served as a lieutenant in the Army National Guard, and was a member of the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team. On top of his military service, the Brooklyn native was assigned to the 112th Precinct in Queens and was an active member of the Shomrim Society, a fraternal organization of Jewish cops.

His death remains under investigation, although military officials have said it did not occur during combat.
