A 37-year-old man was killed in a horrific accident in Brooklyn when he got trapped between the platform and a train at the Avenue M & 16th Street station as he deboarded, causing him to be dragged by the Q train – and then being struck by another.

Initial reports stated that the man’s clothing had gotten stuck in the Q train’s door as it was departing, dragging him along the platform before hurling him onto the tracks. However, New York City Transit President Richard Davey said those reports were incorrect.

“This was not a door incident,” Mr. Davey stressed during a press conference at the station on Thursday.

Rather, Davey says, the Q train’s doors had already closed when the rider, identified as Marcus Bryant of Ocean Avenue, somehow got stuck between the platform and the train. Bryant then ended up on the tracks where he was struck by a second train – though authorities are still unsure how he wound up on the rails.

Firefighters shut power in the area so they could take the victim off the tracks. He was subsequently taken to Maimonides Medical Center by paramedics, where he succumbed to his extensive injuries.
